Computer Scrapbooking Tutorial. Creating A Folded Corner
This digital scrapbook tutorial was created using Photoshop CS3 but you should be able to adapt the steps to other programs.
In this example we will be folding the corner of a background paper,
revealing another paper underneath. You can adapt this tutorial to curl the corner of a picture
or a mat or anything else you can think of to curl! |
1) Open a new document 3600 x 3600 pixels with a resolution of 300dpi. Drag 2 12 x 12 inch papers onto your new document.
2) Select the top paper. Using the Polygonal Lasso Tool draw a triangle selection around the upper left corner of the paper. |
3) Right-click within your selection and choose Layer via Cut to get the triangular selection on it's own layer. |
4) With the corner layer selected Edit>Transform>>Rotate 180 to flip it over.
5) Next make a shadow of the triangle layer. Copy the triangle layer by pressing Ctrl J.
Drag the copy layer below the original. Change the color chips to black and white. Fill the copy layer
with black. Apply blur Filter>Blur>>Gaussian Blur. Make the radius of the blur 3 pixels. Select the Move
Tool and nudge the shadow layer using the arrow keys down one and to the right one. |
6) Lower the opacity of the shadow layer to about 50 percent. Select the smudge tool. Choose a soft brush and make the size a little smaller than the edge of the triangle. With very small movements, move the edge of the shadow out a little in the center of the sides and in a little at the corners.
7) Use to Dodge and Burn Tools to give a realistic curl look. Use the Burn Tool along the top edge of the triangle and the corner. Use the Dodge Tool in the middle. |
8) . Select the bottom paper layer. Create a new layer. Change the color chips to black and white (Press D). Select the Paint Brush Tool. Choose a soft brush. Lower the opacity to around 18%. Draw a shadow along the top of the triangle. If the shadow looks too dark, you can lower the opacity of the layer. |
9) . Anchor the corner down with a staple, brad or button and you are finished! |
